This pot was hand thrown on a pottery wheel using a professional raku clay. It was then left to dry and burnished before being painted with layers of terra sigillata. This technique has been used to create a delicate and glossy finish to pottery for thousands of years.
During the pit firing I applied various combustible materials such as copper wire, banana skins, coffee, seaweed and oxides to create a medley of colourful and interesting marks. These vessels are sculptural pieces and are not food safe or waterproof.
