This raku vessel was hand thrown on a pottery wheel using a professional raku clay body. The clay was left to dry and burnished to a smooth finish. It was then painted with layers of terra sigillata and buffed to a high shine. This technique has been used to create a delicate finish to clay for thousands of years. During the raku firing I applied horse hair and sugar at various temperatures to create a medley of interesting marks. These vessels are sculptural pieces and are not food safe or waterproof.
